Mike Harrison –
Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Duncan D. Hunter
Candidate for California State Assembly – 2016
Mike Harrison is the Deputy Chief of Staff in the district office of Congressman Duncan D. Hunter where he has established a proven track record of being proactive and helping to make a positive impact in the San Diego community for over 20 years. It is for this reason he is running for the California State Assembly in 2016 to represent East San Diego County in Sacramento.
A native Californian, Mike was born in San Diego while his father served in the U.S. Navy. He was raised in the Imperial Valley before moving to Central California to attend California State University, Stanislaus, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, and a minor in History. Mike would later attend Johns Hopkins University, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Government.
In 1994, Mike was provided an opportunity to intern in Washington, D.C. with former Congressman Duncan L. Hunter where he was soon hired to the Congressman’s full-time staff. Mike was responsible for working on several important policy issues involving San Diego County, including water management, transportation and infrastructure, natural resources, agriculture, Native-American affairs, small business development, taxes, federal appropriations, education and Veterans affairs. While in Washington, Mike also served as the Congressman’s Communications Director and Deputy Chief of Staff before returning home to California.
Since 2007, Mike has been the senior staff member in the local Congressional office working with tribal governments, water agencies, utility and energy companies, local school boards, economic development councils, Chambers of Commerce, the San Diego County Farm Bureau, the San Diego Association of Governments and several federal, state and local agencies and governments.
Recognizing an opportunity to continue making an impact in San Diego with new ideas and a commitment to strong social and fiscal conservative principles, Mike announced his candidacy for the California State Assembly in District 71. Firmly believing that California has every right to reach its full potential, Mike’s mission and priorities in Sacramento will be the promotion of business and job growth in California, particularly in San Diego County, reducing government regulation, cutting wasteful spending, defending our 2nd Amendment rights, protecting Prop 13, developing and maintaining a productive water management strategy, investing in new infrastructure, regaining local control of education, and creating better opportunities for all Californians through tax incentives and common sense reforms.
Mike, his wife Kileen, and their two children, Seth and Sydney, reside in Ramona. He is an involved member of Ramona Southern Baptist Church and is active in several community organizations including the Ramona Kiwanis Club, the Ramona Historical Society, the Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic and the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club. He is a Lifetime Member of the NRA, a member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, Desert Wildlife Unlimited, the Lincoln Club of San Diego County, the California Republican Assembly, as well as many Federation of Republican Women Clubs throughout San Diego County.
