TERC is pleased to have Escondido City Council District 1 candidate Tanner Horsley as our speaker at our June 15th meeting. Tanner Horsley sees similarities between his work in the armed forces and the work he hopes to do for Escondido if elected to the City Council in November.
“Throughout my life, I have held a steadfast belief in service to country and community,” he said. “My service in the Marine Corps and work with the Navy has taken me on missions around the globe. My new mission is right here in Escondido — to ensure that every resident has access to a clean, safe and affordable place to live.”
Adapted From the Escondido Times Advocate: Tanner Horsley has announced his run for Escondido City Council, District 1, in the November elections. He seeks the seat currently held by Consuelo Martinez.
In announcing his campaign, Horsley said, “I have lived in Escondido for nearly 20 years—since I was deployed here in the Marine Corps. I have grown to love and appreciate this community and am willing to fight to make Escondido an even better place to live.”
Horsley is focusing his campaign on key quality of life issues, including:
Affordability: supporting new opportunities for affordable home ownership
Roads: prioritizing maintenance and upgrades to reduce congestion and commute times
Livability: effective code enforcement that protects neighborhood quality of life
Parks: investing in clean, accessible parks and open space that families can use year round
Safety: supporting our local police and firefighters
Tanner has been an Escondido resident for nearly 20 years. He and his wife Jessica have two daughters who attend local public schools in District 1.
Horsley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2006, was deployed to Iraq and eventually stationed at Miramar Air Base. While serving, he met his wife in Escondido. Following military service, he worked full-time at Qualcomm while pursuing a degree in Information Technology and Business Management. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he secured a Communications Security account manager position for the Dept. of Defense. Tanner works in information security at U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station San Diego.
